The locking compression plate

The locking compression plate (LCP) has combination screw holes, making it possible to use the implant in three different ways; as a pure internal fixator using locking head screws, as a conventional compression plate using compression screws, or as a hybrid of the two.  an effective technique for increase stifeness stabilization of comminuted long-bone fractures, .

T plates, J plates and Cross pins

Long bone fractures in which either the base or the top of the bone is broken are best managed either using special plates like J plate for femur bones in dogs, cross pins in cats or T plate in radial bones

Plate Rod

This fixation incorporates principles of intramedullary and extramedullary osteosynthesis for transverse and short oblique fractures of long tubular bones. The plate-through-rod device is comprised of one pair of curved rods, a connecting plate and two bone screws. The rod-through-plate fixation method gives strong fixation of bone fragments with minimal traumatization of soft tissue during the operation. The design of the rod-through-plate is intended to reduce pressure of the plate on the cortex in the area of the fracture, whereas the dynamic fixation provided by the intramedullary rods may allow micromotion, thus stimulating callus formation and avoiding implant-induced osteoporosis.

Patellar luxation

Patellar luxation is a common orthopaedic condition describing kneecap dislocation.  This condition is more common in small breed dogs but it can also occur in large breeds. This condition is progressive and can lead to permanent lameness. For dogs with more severe luxation and significant clinical signs, surgical correction often leads to good outcomes with restored kneecap stability — especially if performed before the onset of arthritis.

Pancarpal arthrodesis

Pancarpal arthrodesis is the surgical procedure used to salvage otherwise irreparable injuries of the canine carpus. This is done by fusing the the joints using specially hybrid plates

MIPO

The broken bone is re-aligned by manipulation without surgically or by minimally exposing the fracture fragments. This is often aided by placement of a temporary frame on the bone.and plates fixed to the bone. By this method, surgical time is reduced and there is less surgical trauma to the surgical site

Mandible

Mandible ( Lower jaw) fractures are repaired using wires in cats and dogs. External fixation systems and plates are also used to repair lower jaw fractures in dogs.

IMP CERCLAGE

Fractures which have long length extending from top of the bone to the bottom are treated using pins placed through the centre of the bone and wires wrapped around the fractured bone

Hip Dysplasia

Hip dysplasia is an abnormal development of the hip joint in dogs. It is characterized by a subluxated joint (joint not in normal position) and subsequent degenerative joint disease (osteoarthritis). A surgical procedure called juvenile pubic symphysiodesis (Cauterising the pubic bone) is found beneficial in pups between 16-22 weeks of age

Femoral Head Ostectomy

Femoral head ostectomy, is a surgical procedure that aims to restore pain-free mobility to a diseased or damaged hip caused by severe arthritis or irreparable fractures by removing the head and neck of the femur (the long leg bone or thighbone).

External fixators

External fixators are used to stabilise open infected fractures in dogs and cats. Animals tolerate the fixators well

Double plating

Two plates at right angles to each other are applied to long bone fractures in heavy breed and active dogs which have multiple unstable fractures

Dynamic Compression Plate

The dynamic compression plate is used to compress ‘ two piece’ transverse fractures. It is also used to ‘ buttress’ comminuted fractures of long bones in dogs.

Cerclage Wiring

Wiring is done to stabilise long oblique long bone fractures in dogs and cats. They are however not used as a single method of fixation

Cat Fracture

Cats are good models for fracture healing. Open reduction and internal fixation of fracture provide excellent stability, promote rapid bone healing and improve quality of life.

Amputation

To treat cancers and other irreparable injuries and improve quality of life.
